ETH Surges Past $2,300 Despite $1.61B in ETF Outflows

Key takeaways

  • Ethereum (ETH) has climbed back above $2,300 following a dip beneath its $2,309 realized price triggered by the $6.3 billion Binance hack.
  • US spot Ethereum ETFs saw their seventh straight session of net outflows on Tuesday.
  • ETH currently finds immediate support at $2,250, with deeper floors at $2,204 and $2,107, while a breakthrough past the $2,309–$2,355 range would strengthen its short-term outlook.

Ethereum (ETH) crossed back over the $2,300 threshold on Wednesday, posting a gain of more than 2% over a 24-hour period.

The second-largest cryptocurrency has struggled to break back above its realized price of $2,309, a closely monitored on-chain metric that measures the average acquisition cost of ETH based on its most recent blockchain transfer.

ETH dipped under this key level following a $6.3 billion security breach at Binance last Thursday, which sparked fresh anxiety across the broader digital asset market.

This inability to regain the threshold coincides with ongoing capital departures from US spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs), highlighting persistent worries surrounding institutional participation.

Even though ETH continues to hold its ground around the $2,250 support zone, technical metrics indicate sellers still maintain the advantage.

Ethereum approaches the $2,309 realized price

Recent price fluctuations for Ethereum emphasize the growing significance of its realized price, which sits at approximately $2,309.

According to figures from CryptoQuant, ETH dropped beneath this mark in the wake of the Binance hack and has faced difficulty reclaiming it over the past couple of days.

The realized price calculates coin valuation by looking at the price during each token’s last on-chain movement, divided by the circulating supply.

While it does not track every individual investor’s precise entry point, it functions as a reliable gauge of the market’s collective cost basis.

Trading above the realized price generally indicates that the market holds an overall unrealized profit.

Conversely, slipping beneath this benchmark means the average on-chain cost basis exceeds current market values.

Such shifts can heavily influence trader psychology, particularly during uncertain market phases. Prior to last Thursday’s downturn, Ethereum had sustained a position above its realized price for over a week, with buyers consistently defending the line.

Nevertheless, the recent breakdown has altered the immediate market setup. ETH has met resistance near $2,309 during recent recovery attempts, signaling that some holders are utilizing price bounces toward their break-even point to exit positions.

A decisive push back above this realized price level would serve as a positive signal, pointing to a potential return of buying interest.

Meanwhile, institutional engagement remains a focal point of concern for Ethereum. Data from SoSoValue shows that US spot Ethereum ETFs registered roughly $85 million in net outflows on Tuesday, marking their seventh consecutive session of negative flows.

These latest redemptions arrive on the heels of a brutal October, during which these funds suffered a record $1.61 billion in monthly net outflows.

The continuous withdrawals demonstrate that investors are actively trimming their ETH exposure through regulated financial instruments.

Ethereum holds $2,250 as bulls slowly regain control

Ethereum’s daily technical profile remains cautious as the asset trades underneath several key Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs).

The 20-day EMA rests at $2,352, while the 100-day EMA sits close by at $2,345. Both metrics converge near a horizontal resistance ceiling at $2,355, forming a heavy supply cluster that could stifle recovery rallies.

An additional barrier is presented by the 50-day EMA at $2,411. Trading below these moving averages points to continued downward pressure on short- and medium-term timeframes.

Momentum oscillators reinforce this cautious sentiment. The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) registers near 39, lingering underneath the neutral 50 threshold.

Simultaneously, the Stochastic Oscillator hovers around 34, indicating restricted upward momentum.

Taken together, these technical signals show that buyers have yet to secure firm command over market direction.

The primary support level for Ethereum is located at $2,250. Successfully defending this zone could give ETH room to consolidate and stage another push toward the $2,309 realized price.

On the flip side, a confirmed daily close beneath $2,250 would damage the short-term technical structure, putting the next support target at $2,204 in jeopardy.

Should selling momentum accelerate, Ethereum could slide further toward $2,107, while deeper pullbacks would expose major structural supports at $1,971 and $1,827.

To shift the near-term narrative higher, bulls must first push past the $2,309 realized price.

The subsequent major resistance band sits between $2,345 and $2,355, where the 100-day and 20-day EMAs overlap with horizontal resistance.

Clearing this resistance cluster cleanly could pave the way for a run toward the 50-day EMA at $2,411, followed by higher hurdles at $2,548, $2,636, and $2,781.
